my partner and i are planning a short break to york later in the year. and would like recommendations for somewhere nice to stay. preferably near to the centre and with a carpark or parking near by, as we havent decided on driving or getting the train.

What do you mean by nice? York doesn't have an luxury hotels. What is your budget? It has some awful hotels- which have you looked at so far?June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving
July challenge £50 a day. £ 1682.50/1550
October challenge £100 a day. £385/£31000 -
dont want luxury. just clean comfy bed and a good breakfast. had a quick look at one, think it was called the queens.
would like 3/4 days there if possible for around £200.SPC 0370 -
The Park Inn is lovely - I stayed their with my mum a few years ago its right on the river however it maybe out of your budget - I paid 220 for three nights in June, however I've just looked and its an average of £100 per night.
How about Ibis - £65 per night? - I don't know about the York one however I stayed at the one in Glasgow and that was a clean, comfy room and I would happily book the same chain.Using my phone to post - apologies in advance for any typos0 -
Cumbria House is a brilliant bed and breakfast, just outside the centre, on a 5 minute bus ride route, really good quality breakfasts, we stayed 2 nights last year when our daughter was married in York. Have a look at the website. Tom and Elaine were fantastic hosts too. Parking too.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

The Novotel is central with parking. The rooms vary a bit but it is ok. Bar etc fine. Depending on dates you can get it for under £70 a night- maybe cheaper if not summer.June challenge £100 a day £3161.63 plus £350 vouchers plus £108.37 food/shopping saving

Best Western Monkbar is just outside city wall, is an easy walk from everything, including the station, and I think has parking.
Everything worth seeing in centre of York is walk able, so I'd take the train.
