Card Protection fees

I have recently noticed I have been charged £36.99 on my Barclay Card formerly EGG card, for Card Protection. it would appear I have been charged for this for a number of years, I have not used this card for a number of years, just paying off the balance by DD so never look at the statment in depth(mistake)! I have contacted Barclay Card and submitted a complaint being dealt with, they informed me to call CPP to cancel the policy. However I have tried contacting the CPP company about this and they state they cannot locate me on their system! I have never received a policy document and have never knowingly requested or authorised this insurance. Has anyone else had this type of experience and can offer any advice on how I go about 1. stopping it and 2. recovering these charges.
