Electrical puzzle is this possible

Hi

Hoping someone can help with an electrical problem we are trying to overcome.

We are having a new bathroom fitted and wish to have 5 recessed halogen lights, however we want to have these lights worked off a touch plate on the wall.(thats the easy part)

now the hard bit:- Is it possible to get these lights to dim from the single touch plate.

and if so how??

Thanks for all answers in advance

Regards
J

    varilight do a touch dimmer.
it will HAVE to be outside the bathroom.

    remember part P.

You should use a competent person for the work, links below

    Thanks for the reply.
Is it possible to have the touch pad in the bathroom and what are the implications of having one installed inside.

    Thanks

It's "possible" to get one fitted inside the bathroom, however it's also illegal.
The implications are possible death from electrocution.

One hand in basin, one hand on light switch?

I dont have regs to hand but where do you stand with regards to fitting a LV dimmer switch such as screwfix 36260 especially if it was situated in zone 3.
There should be no risk as you only have 12 volt at the switch.

This is not advice this is just raising a question.

It is not only possible to operate a touch switch in a bathroom, but it is a good idea. There are no implications of death from a properly fitted touch switch.

My over sink halogen downlighters and skirting LEDs are operated from a glass tile that I set in a cutout in a ceramic tile next to the sink, using parts from this site (found using Google for 'bathroom touch switch').

Part P has nothing to do with fitting switches outside the bathroom, that's 16th edition stuff. The bathroom sensor uses SELV, and there is not an issue.

Screwfix, Toolstation and others sell a pull-cord dimmer switch that will also fit the bill - the touch switch option is more elegant than a dangling cord.

Thanks for replies so far, is it therefore possible to wire up 5 halogen downlighters to one touch plate and also make them all dimmable?
How would this be achieved if at all possible

    Thanks

I've just got back online (thank you for very little, Orange!) and saw your question has gone unanswered.

The link I posted was to the page describing the switch and the new dimming verstion - I only have the basic switch.

If you navigate to the 'dimming' page there is a link to wiring diagrams, including the 'Microdim' used with an LV transformer. References to 'Bikkel' refer to the old version of the module.

When I was looking for this type of switch I found the site, it looked like what I wanted so I rang the number and spoke to someone, I am sure you will get the assistance you need from them.

I must add that I have no connection with the company other that being a satisfied customer. I have had the switch fitted for a year now with no problem, except that due to it's design it defaults to ON if there is a power cut. No big deal really.
