    what a sorry situation :(

Bernadette I've got 3 vouchers for free entry when accompanied by a full paying adult to Thorpe Park / Chessington / Warwick Castle / Madame Tussards / Alton Towers (sorry!). If you'd like them please Pm me your address and I'll post them later today :)

Thank you for the offer bumbybecky. After quite a long phone call to husband about what to do with the week, we decided upon a trip to our favourite family holiday spot of all and have just booked 4 days at Duinrell in Holland for a total of £244 for accommodation and ferry which is just £4 more than the cost of the Cub camp for the 2 boys. Alton Towers will just have to wait as I coudn't really find any accommodation and entry tickets which would have cost less than £300.

PS my neighbour pointed me in the direction of the following ticket for thrill seekers in the midlands which I think is excellent value ...

How stuck up are you southerners ? Blackpool Pleasure Beach knocks spots off Alton Towers. Cut off your kids noses to spite your own snobbish face why don't ya ?

Have you asked why there was a change of plan?

Yes for some reason the Scout leader thinks the 135 mile motorway trip (M62 via West Yorks, Manchester and Preston conurbations) from Nottinghamshire to Blackpool will be quicker than the 65 mile country road trip to Alton Towers and thinks that the queues will be shorter in Blackpool compared to Alton Towers. So for 5 months they have planned this trip (well looks like no planning at all really) and 4 days before departure the change of plan!

Oh well, bet it really takes them between 3 and 4 hours to Blackpool, they'll get a few goes on the rides, then it will be another 3 to 4 hours on the road home. Alton Towers would probably take them only 1 1/2 hours. Maybe the queues will indeed be shorter at Blackpool but the Cubs would have had more time at Alton Towers to stand in the queues there than they will have in Blackpool - they will be lucky to get 4 hours max in Blackpool.

Southerner, why am I a Southerner when I am born and bred in Gateshead??? There is no snobbism involved in this at all. Firstly, I believe Alton Towers is a better theme park, but secondly the journey is twice as long and will not be pleasant for my son who does not travel well in coaches.

Im a northerner actually. And having visited the two many many times I still prefer the Towers.

Its nothing at all do do with being "Stuck up" or "snobbish", its called personal preference.

Quite simply we all know it is Grim up North, you can pretend all you like but the children are safer not being exposed to Blackpool, it's far too late now for them to get their jabs done and where are you going to get malaria tablets at such short notice.

I'm a northerner, only an hour from Blackpool, and I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than spend any time in Blackpool Pleasure Beach. It's overpriced, filthy and full of scallies. Last time I went, I was there for 4 hours and got on 2 rides, the queues were so big.

I've nothing against Blackpool particularly, but it's not a nice place to take kids anymore. Had some fab hen nights and weekends with my gay pals though.....

Thankfully, the Cub leader, after first refusing to refund any money on the grounds that camp had been paid for already (which I know not to be true as I phoned Walesby Forest camp this morning to find that the pack had only paid a £30 deposit for the whole group), he later phoned me back and offered a full refund..... good result on the money side.
Presumably this is a church associated cub pack. I'm sure the priest/minister and the select vestry would be quite interested in the type of individual they have running the pack - lying is hardly setting a good example to the children for a start!

Why would it be church-associated?
