Dh was made redundant last week. Never claimed any benefits or jsa before could someone please advise us of what we should do etc?

You can make the claim online then they will call you to arrange to go in. You should do it ASAP as they won't, for instance, backdate JSA as you won't be able to 'prove' he was actively looking for work.
Even if he received a lump sum that puts him over the threshold for receiving benefits, depending on his NI contributions, he'll still be entitled to JSA for 6 months.Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
