Cancellation of DD

Hi all, been missing from the forum for over a month and could really do with a few motivational kicks up the proverbial.
I managed to go overdrawn for 24 hours by purchasing something on ebay because I got muddled up with the date that a payment was going in and have been stung with a 25 pound charge. Anyway my own fault took my eye off the ball.
To avoid going overdrawn again just before payday I cancelled a DD that was due to go out at the end of the month thinking I could just pay it over the phone when I got paid and then set up the DD again for a better date, however they have sent me a letter saying I am in breach of contract and have charged me a £12 default fee. The DD was for an insurance policy.
I suppose I should have read the small print in the contract before cancelling the DD. Considering I am usually a reasonably intelligent person sometimes I shock myself with my own stupidity !
So back to the forum for support and aim not to go overdrawn again and incur any more fees !
