Insurance on house (building only) with mortgage

As the above title ...
Has anyone been told by their bank they had to take out buildings insurance to get the mortgage?
If so did you claim the fees back for miss selling ?

    Yes. Everyone. It is a standard requirement with all mortgages.
    If so did you claim the fees back for miss selling ?

    No. That would just be totally silly. Plus, it is unlikely that any fees were involved as banks rarely charged explicitly for the provision of insurance contracts.

    Suppose your house burned down - you would be left with no home and a debt of tens, or possibly hundreds, of thousands of pounds.

    How would you repay it and put a new roof over your head?

    So of course the lender is going to insist that it is insured.
