    I freeze chopped up herbs in a sandwich bag. You must lay the bag flat in your freezer so that they aren't in a large lump. You can move it in to a separate compartment later. This way when you need a teaspoon in recipes you can get what you need. Handy for sprinkling rosemary on roast pots of thyme on roast carrots.

    I also freeze mash pot in pots but I don't put in as much butter and milk. Defrost, drain off any water then I microwave. Halfway through I mash with a fork and add some butter and milk to it. Really handy with babies. When I was weaning my twin boys I used to mash up all veg and pureed apple, pear, blackberries etc and put in ice cube trays. As got bigger I'd use pots. Pound shop do great ones on baby section that I now use to take snacks out. It saves wasting a whole sweet potato for example and saves you cooking one item each meal. Fruit great for dessert as it is or I used it to sweeten rice pudding.

    I mash my potatoes with just a little butter, lay ice cream scoops on a tray and flatten them into discs before open freezing; once frozen I pack them in a plastic bag. Its easy to take out just how many 'discs' you need. I defrost in the microwave adding more butter and stirring well, it tastes just like freshly made.

    sometimes cheese goes crumbly after freezing but I'm using a block of cathedral c... extra mature from the freezer and its slicing fine. For cooking I buy cheese on offer and grate (or rather, mince, in the fp :D) and store in a plastic bag. It can be cheaper to buy the ready grated when its on offer though.
    ... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

    We regulalrly make a big batch of piza dough and then freeze it in portions. Defrost and roll out and top for a perfect pizza.

    Freezing crumble topping also works well. I trie dthis after making twice as mucha s I needed once. Perfect for whizzing up a quick crumble at short notice.

    I've been thinking about freezing mushrooms lately: I currently buy them ready frozen and use them in cooking as and when, but they're not always available. Do you have to blanch them first, or just chop 'em and freeze 'em?

    Just chop & freeze. Been doing it for years. I buy them in the largest quantities I can & put them in Ziploc bags. Same with onions.

    If you are ever worried if anything will freeze ok just do a small amount, leave a week & defrost.

    Has anybody successfully frozen hummus? I have 3 full pots and the best before date is tomorrow!

    When we have fajitas for dinner, I usually put the rest of the wraps in the freezer, baking paper in between to separate them!

    Hummus -yes, I regularly pop it into the freezer. Just needs a stir after defrosting.
    Deal with things as they are, not as they should be.

    I keep a 'soup box' in the freezer too, at the end of the week any left over veggies go in that (including cucumbers etc, just chop up first) plus any rinse outs from jar sauces, stock made with leftover lettuce etc. When box is full, that all gets tipped into soup pan with lentils or potatoes and you have 'never the same recipe twice' veggie soup! Which can be frozen!

    This is what we want. Really good idea, I like this a lot.

    I was told that if you dip strawberries in jelly before freezing they won't go mushy when you defrost. Tried it but couldn't get the jelly to stick to the fruit!

    Tried freezing leftover wine but it wouldn't freeze properly

    Other than that, i freeze nearly everything!

    Can any one tell me can you freeze milk?? if so can it be any type and how or whats best to defrost it?? as i once put a full bottle in and it went a yellow colour so i just binned it... any help?? thanks

    I live alone & find that small tins of baked beans always cost more than large ones so I buy the large ones, use half the tin & freeze the rest. They really need to be thawed out before microwaving though as they are dense & won't heat through well.

    I also make large dishes of spag bol, chili etc, these get thawed, microwaved, cooled & refozen. It's OK to refreeze meat etc as long as it has been thouroughly heated/cooked through to kill any bugs. I've been doing it for years with no harm & no tummy upsets.
