Vax Rapide v-026 Series Carpet Cleaner - Consumer rights/Trading standards??

HI,
I recently brought a Vax Rapide V-026 Series Carpet Cleaner about April, and have used it about twice.
I was just cleaning the stairs today, using the hose attachement per instructions. As I was moving down the stairs I took the Vax with me! Accidently I got caught and the Vax fell over only one step onto my head. On investigation after the fall, I found that the rubber hose for the water supply to the hose attachment had split.
This is obviously not ideal now as water is spraying everywhere, I can't beleive that a little fall has split the rubber hose.
Is there anyway I can come back to Vax under the consumer act/trading standards saying the hose wasn't adaqute?? I only ask as I have looked for a new part and I have to buy the whole hose attachment and it's connected bits which is £30 and I really dont/want to pay that kind of money for a plastic hose!!
New to forum, so help greatly appreciated as I cant beleive a rubber hose split with alittle fall..
