We were burgled this week while we slept, and the car keys and car was taken.
When I called the insurance company, they advised me the next step was to have a conference call with the DVLA to check my licence and those of the named drivers on the policy.
My driving licence photo card expired last month, it is still registered in my maiden name (married 4 years) and also registered to a flat I still own but is not my primary residence.
Whilst I accept this is my administrative error and may have repercussions, will the insurance company use this as a reason to avoid paying out?

Who was the last driver of the vehicle immediately prior to the theft?
Whose name is the policy in?
Who is the Insurer?0 -
To answer the question - you are normally legally entitled to drive until your 70th birthday regardless of the status of any licence photo, lost documents, or change of name, so an insurance company cannot use any of these as a reason not to pay out.
As long as you have been honest regarding the driving history of any named drivers, there should be no problem. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

They may well ask for additional evidence to show your change of name etc given all the details other than the DoB and first name are not going to match.0

Thanks for your replies.
I was the last driver and the policy is in my (married) name at my current residence. All named drivers on the policy have full clean driving licences as stated when I took the policy out.
I spoke to the DVLA today and they didn't seem too concerned, but wanted to check I was in the process of updating my details. Which I most definitely am now.
My main concern is that the Insurance company (Admiral) will judge the insurance policy to be invalid based on the fact my licence is in a different name and registered to a different address. I accept there is nothing I can do about this now, and what will be will be, but if this is going to cause an issue then it might help to be forewarned about this.0 -
Also, the policy and V5C are in my married name and current address. So, hopefully my licence will be seen as an oversight - thanks RS650

The issue is who the person is more than what their name is. As long as you can prove you are the same person and all the other declared details are correct then I cannot see any insurer getting away with voiding a policy on the grounds of you having "forgotten" to update your DL to new name and address.0
