They appear to think it's April the first.
How else could they possibly print this nonsense:
News Item
"A prominent barrister specialising in reproductive rights has called for the age of consent to be lowered to 13.
Barbara Hewson told online magazine Spiked that the move was necessary in the wake of the Savile scandal to end the "persecution of old men"."
The woman must be several sandwiches short of a picnic.
Next thing someone will suggest that we increase the drink driving limit to end the persecution of politicians and footballers and other drunks who endanger people's lives.

There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

Them printing it does not mean they believe it. Glad they print all news, not just what they agree with.
ps. The barrister is a dingbat,I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
Which bit did the BBC get wrong?0

Yet another example of an intelligent person having no common sense.
It's surprisingly common imo.Herman - MP for all!0 -

God, it's hard when you have to explain every little thing.
The BBC didn't get anything wrong.
My title was intended to imply that the item they were reporting was so loopy it must be an April fool. (And, yes, before anyone points it out I am well aware that this is, unfortunately, not the case.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
she also said that the crims stuart hall committed were misdemeanours
the man abused a 9 year old girl for goodness sake, i hope she has no children or nieces and nephews cause i know if she thinks like that i wouldnt let her anywhere near themmortui non mordent0 -
In fairness the age of consent is probably too high. However it shouldn't be lowered because of the reasons aired by the barrister! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

If that is her belief I guess she'll now have a long line of celebrity old men queing up to use her services for their defence.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Indeed.
We should move to a system such as that used by the Spanish that does not criminalise a pair of fourteen year olds for doing what many fourteen year olds do but continues to protect children under the current age of consent from those able to use an age difference to manipulate them.
This lawyer is simply trying to create work for herself.
Under the current system, if it happened, it's an offence. If what she wanted came to pass she would be able to spend hours haranguing damaged and vulnerable children in an attempt to show they 'gave consent'.
Sickening. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

This was being discussed on the radio today and one caller suggested that Ms Hewson may have some chums who are next in line for investigation - could be...
The suggestion is of course complete twaddle... If the activity was non-consensual it doesn't matter where the age of consent lies! Azari's second para above makes far more sense.I need to think of something new here...0
