When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym. :D

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. :T

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Goooood morning!

Up bright and breezy and drinking my cuppa thinking about getting ready.

This is me today:
- [STRIKE]Check banking[/STRIKE]
- Start to work on budget for May-June
- Keep an eye on conveyancing progress
- Packed lunch from stores
- Breakfast and dinner from stores
- Phone college beauty salon (didn't do yesterday)
- Try my damndest to make something out of my shocking diary today
- Set up a service plan for a customer I spoke to yesterday (£20 commission for me!)
- Do my small amount of washing up then turn off the hot water before I leave for work
- Try to make a list of stuff for moving again
- Organise wheel bearing replacement, it's now SO noisy there is no doubt it will collapse soon...
- Did "1 song housework". Not some new fad...something I have made up to encourage myself, basically do as much housework as possible during the time 1 song is playing.

Work is incredibly stressful at the moment and on top of everything my boss has burdened me with a MASSIVE piece of information that no one else at my work place can know, I hope people are told soon because it's real scary stuff and might well affect lots of people  Unfair of him really but he said he had to get it out of his head and say it outloud so he could start to understand it!

Hope you all have a lovely day, going to be scattered showers here today apparently but it looks lovely out there at the moment:D

Jx

Morning all and thanks for starting the thread off today Jo.
Your branch isn't closing is it? Hope you don't have to keep this to yourself for too long. It's so difficult not to let things slip in conversation. :o

    My small things so far:
    • Breakfast from stores
    • WM started on Economy 7 - pressed the wrong button and instead of a 30 min quick wash which should have finished before the high rate kicked in it's actually on a long wash and still going :(
    • Fed and watered the chickens
    • Made packed lunch for work
    • Checked banking
    • Checked for surveys
    • Fed a manky pear to the chickens instead of throwing it away. They were delighted!
    Also on the list:
    • Get a lift to and from work with a colleague
    • Drink free coffee/water at work
    • Charge mobile away from home
    • Keep an eye on surveys - less than £2 left to go
    • Possibly a half hour walk at lunchtime depending on how heavy the rain is
    • Write to letting agent about returning my admin fee for a flat I didn't go ahead with. They said I could have it back when it was relet, but the landlord has taken it off the market so I don't get it back now
    • Finish doing business accounts ready for the accountant
    • Dinner from stores - salmon is out of the freezer
    • Have an NSD
Have a great day whatever the weather is like with you.
    Stitchy x

Candy I know, I ought to get on with the website and I keep being asked if I've got anything written for it by the developer but I really need help and don't know where to turn without it costing me a fortune. And I need photos, which means models, which means money.... It just goes on and on!

    Morning,

Thanks for starting the thread josiebabie and hugs to everyone who needs them. I like the idea of "1 song housework", I often do "tv ad-break housework" and sometimes I even turn the tv off for a couple of mins during the breaks because I can't bear adverts, except the one for Argos with the little blue aliens in. ;) When we moved house I got some lists online to save me having to think too much about it, like this one. I'm determined that today will be more productive than yesterday and that I'm not going to worry about the job interview I have on Monday until Sunday.

    Today I will:

    3. Leave the heating off as long as possible. Done
    4. Check Quidco/TopCashBack for payments. £1.51 due. :j
    5. Tidy the shed. Looks like a tornado's hit it. There could be the Lost Treasure of the Incas in there and we'd have no idea. Why has my OH left clothing in here?!
    6. Clean PC with wet wipes and a clean paintbrush. Done
    7. Forage for razor clams. Found some mussels and lambs lettuce.
    8. Lunch is cheesey pasta from the FoodBank, leftover sausage and leftover mushroom. Done
    9. Order seeds with £1 I forgot I had in my PayPal account. Done
    10. Repair pyjamas on sewing machine. Done

    Morning all!

Thanks to josie for starting the thread off. I hope things at work get better

Stitchy - I have a friend who works in marketing, if you're struggling with copy, then I know she was talking about a really good book. I could find out the name?

lpp - hope the cold is short lived!

Foxgloves - I like the idea of weekly readings, could be quite telling. I'm off the find a notebook :D

Perni - he has been known to leave the pedal board on all night  (to a stern telling off in the morning)

ally - thanks for your links as always :)

I realised that part of the reason that our electricity use is so different since we moved is that we used to be on economy7 which covered a good deal of my pre-work usage.

So, yesterday was fairly good. Spent most of it out of the house. My cake failed (too wet - my fault) but has a nice bread pudding texture that is still edible :D

    Today's plan:

    [STRIKE]Check online banking.[/STRIKE]

[STRIKE]Have another coffee and wake up a bit[/STRIKE]

    [STRIKE]Make that soup![/STRIKE]

    [STRIKE]Tend to seedlings[/STRIKE]

    Make bread

[STRIKE]Didn't wash hair today (water and gas saving)[/STRIKE]

Not really sure. Feel a bit off kilter today :/ Am off to the opticians and I can't be bothered walking (40 min walk) and want to go on bike (15 mins) but I don't have a helmet and I fell off last time and ended up in A&E with a large bump on my head. :(

Hope everyone has a good day x

Went on my bike after all and didn't fall off. :j
Optician says I need new glasses but not urgent so will put off till next month :)

Finally got forms to register at local doctors (only 18 months after I moved :o)
Found new covered for walk in plastic greenhouse inherited from m-i-l, cheapest I found online was £14.99, this was £5.99 in £stretcher :money:
    LBM 11/06/2010: DFD 30/04/2013
    Total repaid: £10,490.31

Good morning everyone. I am back after being missing for a couple of days I really need to try and post daily to keep myself motivated to get rid of the debt and save some money.

Josie - Thanks for starting the thread off this morning.

    My list for today:
    • [STRIKE]Count up the amount that is still owed on my loans and work out how long till I can get it cleared off[/STRIKE]16 weeks till its paid off but I am going to try and pay extra to clear it quicker
    • [STRIKE]Nectar adpoint, Swagbucks, Swapits, Birthday bingo, Postcode lottery[/STRIKE]
    • Surveys - remember to check one poll and pure profile
    • Do freelance work that is in for today
    • Sort customers avon order ready for delivery tonight
    • Do some of the ironing pile
    • Declutter and flylady - kitchen today
    • Write up recipes that I am going to use next week and make a shopping list
    • Do online shop armed with the list
    • Laundry - full loads, empty TD, check airer and move to the ironing pile
    • Do some course work
    • [STRIKE]Attend midwife appointment[/STRIKE]Got bloods taken and really was not expecting it, arm has been painful since and is starting to bruise
    • Print paperwork for night as doing a m.shop, its been months since I done any of these
    • Sign up to 5 new sites to hopefully increase the amount of online income
    • Look out the next size of clothes for dd
    • Feed all the pets
    • Phone the hospital regarding missed appointment (midwife was meant to come to see me yesterday but never turned up)
    • Finish sorting the cakes that I made yesterday (sponge and millionaire shortbread)
    • Sort company accounts for last month
    • Water the plants
    • Stay in house as much as possible, as party plan kit is due to be collected which should write off £480 of debt (fingers crossed my calculations are correct)
I think that is more than enough to keep me out of trouble (spending) today. Hope everyone has a good Thursday, hugs to those that need them x

    Good Morning my lovelies

josie - Thanks for starting us off this morning

Yesterday didn't turn out quite as expected and not a lot happened on my list (fell at work and hurt my arm), so today I will try harder.

Had to have a bit of a chuckle to myself recently as someone who made my life pretty uncomfortable and made me question the person I was has recently asked me to have her son for an hour or so after school on a Thursday so he can go to cricket and she can take her little girl swimming!!, which just goes against everthing she ever said, lol (do you remember last year when I had trouble with another mum at school over my son not inviting her son to his party and she told me I was a nasty person and lots of other hurtful comments).

Anyway enough waffle, todays little listy:

    Check Banks - Done
    Check swapits - Done
    Check www.freepostcodelottery.com - Done
Packed lunch for OH & LO - Done
    Work (10.30-1.30) - Done
    General Tidy up - Done
    Ironing - All done
LO at cricket after school - Done & collected child (as above)
Bake (cheese & onion scone loaf) - maybe tomorrow
    Surveys -
    Catch up on emails -
Email complaint to Bannisters - Done
    Enter a few comps -
Read - Reading another book from stash
    Meals from stores - Done
Update Food tracker - in progress

Have a great day, love to you all.

    [/QUOTE]

A letting agent can only withhold the monies relevant to any works carried out - So if you didn't go ahead with the let they can only withhold a portion of the fee which they can prove = to the work carried out (this is of course dependent on how far through the process they are when the let falls through) I'm a letting agent and we operate on this basis as we were legally advised to do so. Usually we just reclaim the costs to the company (i.e if we've paid for references to be carried out) Hope this is helpful!
