EDF Energy Blue, first bill after seven months, DD increased by £147
Hi all,
So I switched from E.on last year, (sept-oct time) and moved to EDF energy Blue, fixed tariff.
I live in a 2 bed terrace house, and it started our DD at £80. I expected this to go up a little as we had been paying just over £100 with e.on.
So its been running for a while, and the DD of £80 has gone out each month (Oct through to April) and this month I received an email with my latest bill. I opened this and it states that we are £309.99 in debit, and that due to this they are increasing future DD to £227.00 a month.
So after my jaw hit the floor, I started reading into the bill a bit further.
It says that the bill period is for 17th September 12 - 22 April 13, and the meter readings that it starts from are both estimates. Now I know I submitted the initial meter readings via the EDF app, however checking my account online, I cannot see anywhere that shows my meter reading history.
Obviously I am going to call in the morning, but I just wondered if anyone else has had anything like this?

Hopefully you still have the readings you gave to EDF when they asked for them shortly before the Switch date - Check the Final Bill you had from Eon for the End Reading they are useing - It should be the same as EDF's Start Reading
My experience with EDF is that they will produce a bill every time the customer gives them a meter reading - If the customer does not give a reading they will issue an Estimated or Meter Read Bill every six months - I enter a meter read onto their website every 91 - 92 days and get Qtly bills0 -

Why have you not been inputting your readings regularly into the EDF My Account Online facility?
If you did this, you would have received a bill as often as every month, been able to keep an eye on your account balance, have spotted much earlier that the start readings were not the ones you provided and ensured you are only billed for what you actually used.
I would suggest you give meter readings today.0 -
Well I called this morning. A bit of a wait on hold, but to be honest, I'm relatively happy with their customer service.
I advised that I thought the DD amount was far too high and they agreed. I've been through my last years consumption, and used those figures in USwitch, and it estimates my cost (with EDF) should be £1200 a year, therefore £100 a month.
I queried the estimates, but it appears that the bill was incorrect, and should have shown that they were the actual readings I gave on the app. (Checking back through my final bill with e.on, these are correct).
Show yep, my usage is still higher than I would like, but it was correct. That being said it worked out as £850ish costs for just over 7 months. Over a year I think that will equate to roughly £100 a month.
So I paid the balance of, and the direct debit was changed to £100.
Hopefully that will set me in credit over the summer months, ready to take the hit of higher usage next winter.
Now just need to start finding a way to bring my consumption down!0
