ECO Deal NOT Green Deal??

Hi all
I wonder if you can help me with a bit of advice.
I had a sales person come to the door today trying to sell us cavity wall insulation; i was busy and couldn’t talk to him so he is coming back tomorrow night (Thursday). One thing i did say to him was i am not interested in the Green Deal (i don’t have a good feeling about it just yet) and he said he can do the green deal but then he said he prefers the ECO deal and i quote 'ANYONE CAN GET IT FREE' now i have heard that before and normally there is a catch but in this instance i cannot find a great deal about the ECO deal.
To summarise what he said
1) ECO deal is NOT the green deal.
2) His company pays for the work to be carried out and then sells my energy saving to an energy company? (i think that’s how he put it) he mention domestic and general.
3) He makes £240-£260 per house
4) Its not tied to the house AND there is no CATCH
5) Its totally free?
6) He presumes our cavity is 45mm that’s why no one else would do it for free (we had a quote from British Gas who never mention anything about cavity thickness but we were to late for the funding last year)
I'm dubious of anything that is labelled as 'FREE' because it rarely ever is, and i don’t claim any benefits or on a low income, etc, etc so we will see.
I thought i would post on here to see if anyone can give me the heads up on this ECO deal so i am prepared for his waffle tomorrow night.
Thanks
Chris

If you want CWI take your time and research it properly, start with a search on the company he represents.

ECO is Energy Company Obligation
companys like Domestic&General, will be looking to sell the carbon savings on to power companies
You say you were to late to get cavity wall insulation for free from British Gas last year,
did you get as far as having a survey done by them (BG)?0 -

Actually, cold callers did just that with the free insulation offers at the end of last year, and they are doing it again under certain circumstances. In this circumstance it would seem that a company has identified that an estate of houses was built with narrow cavities, which under previous guidelines would have been ineligible for free insulation. Under new guidelines introduced under ECO, these houses now qualify for assistance. As there will be many companies trying to get the attention of the households, it is fairly common for them to send street canvassers to get as many signed up as possible.0 -
Thanks for the replies
Its funny you say that Ecodave that is exactly what the salesman said to me.
Goodybags, we did have a quotation from BG but i must admit it was rather expensive so we didnt really take all that much notice when he said we had missed it by one week. i will have to try and find a copy of it0 -
I was in a house the other day and the owner occupier said she had had a brand new Vaillant combi boiler fitted free of charge in exchange for her existing non condensing combi. Apparently the company trades in carbon credits or something? didnt get the full story. all i know is she had a boiler change for free ! Or rather,i presume the taxpayer ends up footing the bill by some means or other..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

I was lucky enough to qualify for a new boiler too. It was sold to me that the Government have huge targets to hit for reducing carbon emissions and will be fined massively if they fail to hit them so are replacing old, uneconomical boilers for free if you are a low income household. This obviously also helps provide reasonably priced heating for these households. It is covered by the ECO deal.0 -
I've worked in something similar a while back and the funding from these comes from the energy companies. In order to keep their licence to be an energy company they have to commit to funding energy saving measures. What is classed as acceptable is laid down by Goverment and is reviewed every so often.
I believe they have targets on how much energy/carbon is saved by the poorest part of society (i.e. on benefits) which is why those on benefits get targetted. The rest are normally offered substantial subsidy on the cost of getting the work done. This can vary so it may be worth getting several energy companies to quote for the work.
It may be worth a word with your council as they often run schemes in partnership with an energy company and may be able to help get an even cheaper price as the council may provide subsidy as they also have a requirement to improve housing. My local council had a scheme where everyone in the borough got free insulation regardless of income. Obviously your milage will vary.0 -

I wonder what the qualifying criteria are and can you just borrow your granny to qualify?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
There's a whole 550+ posts on ECO & Green here. Many people claim to have had free boilers / SWI / CI / Etc under the affordable warmth obligation introduced on December 5th 2012. Many assessments have been performed .. .. the question remain :
- (1) how many domestic conversions / installations have been completed
- (2) were they, the domestic installs free, totally free
- (3) were the dwellings concerned individual households or group / district heating installs .. .. as in LA's or Housing Associations etc
- - - and what % of those [if there were any individual dwellings] were 'fuel poor' clients.
Example : Bellaumbrell, like hundreds who post on this subject claims a 'free' new boiler - not yet converted from an assessment to an installed 'free' boiler - so not in fact - a 'free' new boiler. C_Mababejive, claims [third hand] a friend [past tense] had a brand new Vaillant combi boiler fitted free of charge in exchange for her existing non condensing combi - so if true - a 'free' new boiler was fitted under the ECO rules.
NOTE : Watch out for that one extra tick box "customer requested extra" !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. #10 Well i shall elaborate further. I called at a house during the course of other business and noted that the retired female occupier was having a brand new condensing combi vailliant ecotec plus installed. It caught my eye because the item they had ripped out was a not very old worcester si combi non condensing.
She explained that the swap was being done for free under some kind of carbon trading thingey...her words..so she told me directly that it was being done at no cost to her.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry).
