Gas charges

I have a prepayment gas meter, supplied by British gas, there,s no money owing on it, but I,ve just had the message saying about paying £4.00 debt. I,ve phoned British gas, and they say this is because of government legislation, the big6 energy companies are now being charged by the government. Are the energy companies to keep their profit, passing this charge onto the customer, or is David Cameron, just trying to get his more money. Is this a stealth tax, or the energy companies just trying to keep their profit.

me thinks the agent you spoke to is sitting on his mouth, - check your tariff to see if standing charge or daily charge regardless of use

There has probably been a change to the tariff - an increase to the standing charge or tier 1 price. Have you had any other notification of a price change?

If a prepayment meter is only updated via your payment card when you make a payment then a small debt can build up between payments on a tariff change.
