Computer crashing with video to DVD converter?

Hi there I wonder if anyone can help :o

Mr EL has recently decided he would like to convert videos into dvd's as a service.

He went out and bought a video player and a software package called DVD Express version 3.0. This came with a capture analogue-to-digital converter.

the DVD Express package incorporates Capwiz 3.5 software to run the video though.

Every time he previews the video through the pc via the Capwiz 3.5 programme, it freezes after a few minutes and crashes - a really bad crash, where not even CTRL+ALT+DEL helps.

He installed extra memory yesterday, but that did not help, it is still crashing.

our pc is only a few months old, works well when he edits mini-DV footage and burns it to DVD etc. Just on this video side it's crashing.

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening? It's driving us mad :o

Many thanks

What else is running at the same time?
What is the true continuous power output of the PSU?
    What cpu?
How hot is the case getting?

Sorry to sound negative but quality conversion takes a lot of power, on a good cpu etc, or it will just freeze due to a bottleneck some where in the system or because it overheats.

Eg. I've just done a DVD to cd conversion of 'Over the hedge' and on my system it was using less than 50% resources.

AMD 64. with 64 ultra TC cooling ( ducted )
    550w NorthQ psu ( 80% eficient )
    Nvidia nx7600gs ( 512mb ) fitted below a 140mm rear fan.
    and a gig of RAM

Which all sits inside a big Antec case with good airflow.

Hi Kevinwj, I will get back to you with these answers after work today - although we have nothing else running at the time, and case doesn't even get a chance to get hot as only about 10 seconds of the video gets to run before the whole thing freezes. I will update you asap - thanks
