Buying in Manchester

I am hoping to buy a 1-2 bed flat in Manchester's city centre for around 110K, I'm a FTB with a Mortgage in Principle from HSBC. However am not sure of what area will be professionals mostly. PLease advise. I am willing to look at other areas such as Ancoats or Salford but i want a place within 10 mins walk to Deansgate. Where do people recommend?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi e60London,
I would consider the Castlefield area, certainly some of the new developments around the northern quarter(N4) and then possibly those around the Spinningfields development. All within 10 minutes of deansgate depending on which end you want. I'm not sure what 110k will buy you but EAs like Julie Twist & Jordan Fishwick have city centre offices and that'll give you a decent steer.

You can invite me to your house warming:)

Firstly, Salford isn't in Manchester city centre! ;)

Castlefield is a good shout, also look at Oxford Rd corridor although thats a little more than 10 mins away. Likewise the Quays. Salford and Ancoats will have more of a mix of professionals and "natives". But that's Manchester, you get a mix of different people living in even the poshest of areas which is what gives it a vibrancy. Embrace it!

Maybe not, but there are flats on Chapel Street, which is a short walk up New Bailey Street/Bridge Street into town.

You one of these nouveau Manc snobs?

"Pre-74" Eccles lad, calls you out... :D;)

Ha! True, I know salford starts just off deansgate really. Just heard too many salfordians rant about how theirs is the original city, it's not Manchester etc etc..

to be honest I was thinking about Salford i.e very close to Deasgate but heard a bit about natives having a grip about outsiders coming in - I'm a Londoner! So, I don't want my neighbours hating me!

Is the northern quarter classed as the city centre?

Northern Quarter is classed as city centre yes. Nice enough area, i would definitely keep is as an option, but castlefield is the other area that stands out.

Dont worry about Mancunians/Salfordians - in the main unless you get the odd idiot were all alright and pretty easy going.

I;m looking forward to them in that case. EVERYONE in London is grumpy and suspicious! I've been burgled 5 times and on all occasions my neighbours "didn't see anything...".

There are some flats in the Green Quarter (M4- along Cheetham Hil Road), which is another few mins out but still just 5/10 mins walk from the start of Deansgate. There are also a few flats for sale along the start of Rochdale road (Skyline central & Linx).

Some examples of places in those areas.

These are just a minute or two from the Arndale/Deansgate but might be able to get a 2 bed flat for £110kish.

    Also agree with Castlefield!
