Summer house in place of garage.

I have a brick built garage at the bottom of my garden. It is used to store all the garden rubbish that accumulates (mower, kids toys, spare chairs etc) It really is quite unsightly and as I am currently having the garden refenced, turfed and a new patio, I am considering having it taken down and a summer house type thing put in its place.. and probably get one of those big plastic storage things for the toys and mower.
I should say that my garden is about 50m x 50m so not huge and the garage really takes up a lot of room.
Has anyone done similar? Did you regret it? Is it possible to get a cheap/decent summer house thing for as little money as possible? Any recommendations? This is all already costing me a fortune so I want to spend as little as possible. The fence/garden man will put it all up for me, so that's also an added expense.
Thanks

Bigger than mine? I don't know. Don't confuse me.0

I wouldn't put a summer house in it's place, it would not be as practical imo and would require upkeep. It's unlikely to be completely weatherproof/watertight.
I'd keep the garage, paint it and 'disguise' it with trellis and plants.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Most new builds get 30 by 30 feet.
Ok, I get it. Thank you for your comments. I am extremely lucky to have a massive back garden and I described it wrongly. I apologise for having offended you. I *was* after advice on what to do re the garage/summer house problem, but if you would like to continue to comment on the size and my description, please,go right ahead.0 -

I don't think I'd use it either and I am trying to create a maintenance free garden (after years of it being an overgrown jungle). I just want to mow the lawn and be done with it.
The garage is already trellised and has been hidden under about 4ft (width used for dramatic effect) of ivy for years. It's so bad the branches have grown through the door to it and ripped them off their hinges! Maybe if I just thoroughly kill it all, and get new doors it'd be better.
Thank you for your constructive advice, it's really helped.0 -
I think getting rid of the garage might devalue your house. Not only would you have to pay for the garage and base to be removed you then have to buy the summer house only to then fill it up with gardening clutter. Plus buy plastic storage thing for kids toys (ugly BTW)
I would keep the garage, paint it in a soft green to blend in with the garden, replace doors and put up some really nice trellis.
Good luck with what you decide to do.0 -
Oh! I have meters and feet confused. It's 50ft by 50ft. 50m by 50m would be massive! Oops0

Lol, I was thinking more along the lines of some individual plants in large pots.
Honestly I think you're looking at it through eyes of 'horror' at the moment but I do believe it's better to have it than not. It's just a case of making it look as aesthetically pleasing as possible.
Google 'how to hide or disguise a shed/garage/garden eyesore' (delete as appropriate). There may be some ideas.Herman - MP for all!0 -
I think you are exactly right. There is a door under the ivy that I'd forgotten was there, we put a sheet of ply over it.. That'd be fine painted up. I'm sure I could get new wooden door quite easily. And if I paint the walls it could actually look quite pretty.
I shall google! Thanks again!0
