Travel Agent Branch Booked us into wrong hotel.

Hi, Hopefully someone can give me some guidance in the best way to handle this without blowing my top!!
I'll try and keep this as short as possible!
- We had a all inclusive holiday promoted to us by a well known high street travel agent.
- We were advised the hotel is due to be refurbished, have a change of name and be converted into a new, plush, family complex early next year - we booked for May.
- We made the booking with the travel agent, on their recommendation but have since discovered that they booked us under the wrong hotel, it was the hotel next door that is due to receive the refurbishments.
- The travel agent admitted their error, and agreed to pay the admin fees to change the booking but are refusing to pay the additional costs involved, a difference of £575 to correct the booking and re-book under the other hotel.
- They say this is because the accommodation we are currently booked under is a 'sister' hotel to the one we were intending to use, therefore the star rating, and amenities are the same.
However, we discovered (by contacting the hotel) that the amenities are not the same, we can use them but they are not included in the 'all inclusive' package we would of received at the original hotel!
Where do I stand? I am right in thinking I should not be paying a dime towards any amendments. Or because it was all verbal and not in writing am I going to struggle? Even though two different members know they gave both myself and my husband the wrong information.... Would be grateful for advice! Thanks.

What a shower!
Try contacting ABTA (ombudsman), Tweeting them, emailing their head office.
If all else fails, small claims court.0 -
It seems unclear what you have paid for, what the agent thinks you've paid for, and what you're actually going to get.
I don't think you are going to get far insisting that they provide you with what you were told at the original price.
Given they have admitted the mistake I would insist they cancel the booking, and book elsewhere. It's plenty of time away yet so you're not going to be out of pocket due to prices rising.0 -
Thanks for your message. They've told me to cancel will lose me 600 quid deposit! I've sent a message to the ABTA as recommended above thanks for the advice0
