I had been having some trouble before with random metre readings till I noticed It had been recording at the wrong times so The electric company replaced it.

It has now been 3 weeks and I have some very random and i beleive the this last weeks reading to be wrong.

8 days 01/05/2013 95 132

7 day 08/05/2013 204 136
-109 -4

This last 7 days ive used only 4 units at night? I have a water boiler that comes on at 12:30 each night and i have stuff like fridge/freezer/small radiotor and internet on at night.

What is my next step to solving this?
I have contacted the power company again and all they want to do it replace the meter again. I have to book it off work though which i wasnt that happy about doing the first time around!

I suspect on your middle reading, the registry readings were reversed ;)
  • Hi,

    yes agree with above,

    so your usage would be,

    6 days: day 69 night 46

    7 days: day 63 night 49

    8 days: day 72 night 41

Why would the meter be telling me the wrong way around though? ive double checked the night and day and my wife did aswell.

Last night i went out to see if the clock is right/wrong. The timer is out by 1 hour but what I baffled at was the lights to show the electric was being used was blinking like mad. Ive got a video of it but not sure if I can post links on here?

The time was 1am in the morning aswell.

did you mean water heater comes on at 12:30 in the morning, so could be that.

What type or raidiator do you use?

I understand my waterboiler could make my electric look like its used but it doesnt do the same in the day while the Washer/tumble/computers and everything else on.
Usually a tiny oil radiator but it hasnt actually been plugged in for a bit due to the weather.
  • Hi,

when you say, 'water boiler', is it a small over the sink kinda thing like this,

    over-sink-water-heater-handyflow-5-litre_1408_1_medium.jpg

or a hot water cylinder like this,

    Copper%20cylinder.jpg

if the latter, then it is heated by an immersion heater, probably kicking in at 3kw, so when first on it will make the meter flash rapidly.

    Its the big cylinder one.

Thought id take a meter reading 2 days after and ive already used 9 units of electric at night which is more then entire week.

Soooo if the meter readings are the wrong way would getting yet another meter installed fix this or would it be a differnt problem?

9 units at night over two days isn't high, especially when your immersion heater is being used.

As already said, looks as though your previous low usage for the week was wrong, are you reading meter properly?

Forget about the erroneous reading, meter is not going to be wrong just for a week, use your start reading, take a reading now, and then see what daily average is.
