Getting to Wembley from Manchester

Hi, my daughter has just presented me with 2 tickets for Wembley this Saturday and I wandered if anyone has any advice about the best way travel and where to.

I believe we will probably be best to stay overnight if travelling by train, car is the next option but its a long time for us to travel.

Looking at the trainline website it suggests Manchester to Euston to Marylebone to Wembley Stadium.
However a better route maybe to Milton Keynes to Watford then Wembley.
I think the first route maybe chaos.

Any advice about B&Bs would also be helpful

    Hi,
I live near Watford and would use that route. I think there is a coach from Watford to Wembley. Alternatively you can walk/taxi from Watford Junction to Watford tube (about 1.5 miles) and get the Met line straight to Wembley. Virgin trains do have some direct Manchester to Watford trains.

If I was driving I'd park somewhere like Watford Tube or Rickmansworth and get the Met line to Wembley park. Moor park would be good as more trains stop there but I'm not sure about parking near there. That way you are parking just off the M25 and letting the tube do the painful bit of getting you to the stadium through the awful traffic. The TFL website has all the tube info.

    Enjoy the game.

I totally disagree with that. If you are going to drive then take the car all the way to the stadium. Either use the official on-site parking, or one of the many parking options on approach to Wembley.

Traffic in won't be too bad as cars and coaches arrive at different times. Traffic back out is slow, but well organised and will be freely moving onto the north circular.

If you try and catch the train or tube out of Wembley be prepared for an hour or so of waiting in a queue to get into the station (possibly longer).

I live ~40minutes away in Hertfordshire and been safely home while friends have still waiting to get onto trains.

If I drive to Wembley, then I always park up at Stanmore (just off M1) and get the tube direct into Wembley from there.

If it were me I would drive to and book into Wembley park premier inn on Saturday morning they do have a car park on a first come first served basis and you could walk the short distance to the venue

Thanks everyone for your contributions and for the info, I wont be driving that far (dodgy leg) so we will go by train to Watford Junction then change to the direct train to Wembley Stadium and stay in Watford after the game
  • I'd get a megabus into london, and a bus from there.

Getting to the Tube after the game is the worst part. It can take the best part of an hour - though the time passes quicker if your side has won.
