Today I attempted to log into my natwest bank account online and got the following message
Customer advice, please address the following issues:
The redirect page is asking all the information a phisher usually asks for e.g.
First Name
Middle name(s) (if any)
Surname
Date of Birth
Gender
Home Postcode
Email Address
Confirm Email address
Important - if you hold a NatWest debit card, we may be able to provide you with immediate access to your online banking service.
A NatWest personal account and a NatWest debit card A NatWest personal account without a NatWest debit card A NatWest business account and a NatWest debit card A NatWest business account without a NatWest debit card A NatWest Credit Card only
Is this page genuine? If so why have I been redirected here when I type in the address http://www.natwest.com into my browser and click on Online banking login in and enter my correct customer number?

It sounds genuine, so I think you have entered the wrong details twice or more and it's locked you out. Caps lock on maybe?
The fact that you haven't followed the link and have typed your own address in and still got a redirect would support that.
What AV are you running? Have you got Rapport on it as well?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Personally, I would call.
I once had a virus on an office PC that loaded (when I typed in the Natwest address, not clicking it from anywhere else), a fake website that looked identical to the true Natwest site.
The URLs were all normal. The only difference was that it was asking for my full password in one go, rather than certain characters from it. I noticed this, informed the IT manager and the computer had to be retired because he couldn't find the virus after a week of searching. Everyone that saw the site when I informed the manager said that they wouldn't have noticed, and would have fallen for it and put in the password.
As I'd typed the URL, and the site loaded on Natwest's usual URL, most people would have been tricked.
Natwest have phone numbers. Why take the risk? It might be totally fine, but there's a chance that it's not.0 -
I've called them up, they have confirmed that more than 2 attempts have been made unsuccessfully to log in.
I don't remember failing twice before though. Anyway long story short I've re-registered online after talking to them.0 -
this happens periodically. Two possible scenarios:
1. Nat West system is broken and occasionally doesn't recognise your login
2. it is a deliberate policy to get you to confirm your details - perhaps because they don't have any faith in their security
I have had this happen three times now, when I've known that I put the correct details in. The message in all three occasions was displayed after the first attempt. Furthermore, I tested it from a number of different browsers and devises. In other words, given that it claimed the details were not recognised, there would otherwise be no means of linking the attempted login to my account i.e. the message is simply not telling the truth. Why Nat West chooses to lie to us, I can't say but the evidence is incontrovertible that they do.0 -
Yes, it happens - NatWest system trouble. My message like this appears in red, boxed outline red, just below banner. You'll be put back and should also receive txt/msg 'welcome to our online banking service'......after years of having had it. Never mind.

I experienced the same issue last week with RBS, even though I knew I had entered the correct details. Got on web chat with their advisors to check that putting in all that information was kosher.
Just annoying.0 -
Me too some time ago with Nwest
Though I had not used it for some time so maybe the temp lock was due to this.
My email message at the end was welcome BACK to online banking...now that you have re-activated your online banking etc.....0
