Can't get wifi network connection

Hi,
I'm hoping someone may be able to give me some advice. We have a wifi network set up on our computer. We have two laptops that have been connecting sucesssfully to the network for ages now, at least a couple of years. About a week ago every time we try to connect to the internet from the laptops we keep getting a message saying the connection was cancelled. We get another message saying 'You can try connecting again or try connecting to a differet network. If the problem continues contact your network administrator or hardware manufacturer for further assistance.' Can anyway tell us why this is happening? We are not that technically minded and don't really know where to start to try and resolve this problem.

First retest using ethernet to ensure that it is a wireless issue only.
Can you 'see' your wireless network among those available to you? If so, have you tried re-entering your wi-fi password?
What router and what OS are you using?
It could possibly be a channel clash with a neighbour, and so changing the wireless channel may help.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
