Hello Moneysavers - you are my last hope... I've managed to completely balls up my holiday plans and frankly i can't think of anything to do but ask you lot for suggestions.
Here's my situation - i need to fly to thailand as close as possible to the night of the 20th of july... as my best friend is out there for only 12 days and i promised him i'd meet him (if not he's billy no mates)
Then my girlfriend is coming to meet me and we're planning to travel up to chiang mai to see my sister who is due to give birth to my new nephew then. I have to be up there to babysit my niece while she gives birth etc... the plan is to come back as close to the 23rd of august as possible....
Now what i really need is to flind a flight out to thailand on the 21st of july (or late on the 20th as i'm workin till late 7 in central london on the 20th). And a flight for my girlfriend around the 3rd of August - she's more flexible with dates. She's a nervous flyer and really desperate not to have to do 2 long hauls on her own. We need to come back on the 23rd of august (or a couple of days eitherway).
As it stands we cant find anything for less than £730 that lets us come back together and we really can't afford that, if you have any useful tips at all i would be eternally grateful...
Thanks in advance

Try the indirect route:
Oasis flies every night from Gatwick to Hong Kong. And there are very cheap flights from there to Bangkok. (For example, Air Asia, although they fly out of Macau, which is just a hovercraft ride from Hong Kong.)
Flights on Aeroflot are also remarkably cheap.
However, if you want direct flights and your GF wants to insist on travelling with you (I mean, if she can sit on her own on a 'plane going there, then she can sit on her own coming home) then you should expect to pay for the privilege. And 730 sounds like a very reasonable price.0 -
Sorry, it's not a bad price. You've left it late, and your travelling on two of the most popular dates. I had a cursory look, but as i'm unsure what you call good value, and it will probably be unrealistic at this stage have decided your best bet is to call a couple of good travel agents and let them search for you as they have more experience than you would have with a couple of internet booking engines.0

it does look like a good price, you can get to Hong Kong for about £580 and then a flight from there to Bangkok is about £150 return
I think you should get those flights you have found for £730 as I don't think you will get better adn the later you leave it the less choice you are going to have0 -
I have found £660 if you leave on the 18th not 21st, and £729 ebookers 21st july out and 23 aug back.
You are flying during school holidays and late booking, your price is not bad. You could take a gamble and leave it late to see if it drops, but prob not worth the risk.
I will keep looking and let you know.0 -
Yeah that's what i thought - we've had a few much better prices previously an for work and family reasons our dates have shifted a few times - i think it maybe time to bite the bullet and just book. sadly this missus remembers how fantasticly cheap we got them last time - cheers for your help chaps ...
Just to clarify one thing tho - tho as i said i am resigned - i'm not after direct flights - i dont mind stopping off - i also take the point about mymissus - but what can you say women can be irrational (no offence to our female money savers of course!)
