Bank says no to refund of charges...........

Can anyone help me, my son has moved back home after a two year relationship. His girlfriend had control of all his finances, his bank loan, phone, car insurance were not paid most months as she was not paying his money in.This meant he was paying bank charges month after month. He has just had a reply from a letter we sent to the bank last month explaining his circumstances and how we have paid all his depts but feel the bank charges accumulating to about £700 made his financial situation worse. They have said they are not prepared to pay charges back. Were can we go from here ???????????????

Nowhere. its game over.
It is up to the bank whether they chose to refund bank charges or not. Since the banks won the charges court case, it is only incorrect application of charges, goodwill gestures or current financial hardship cases that they will look at and take a view (same with the FOS).
Nothing in your post suggests current financial hardship as all debts have been repaid. So, no reason for the bank to consider a goodwill refund.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I should imagine £700 would be too much for a bank to consider a goodwill payment.0

I think someone is getting into the realms of fantasy here.
If the phone bill is not paid, then the supplier will cut the phone off ... or at least stop any outgoing calls.
If the car insurance is not paid, the insurer will write to the policy holder (often adsvising them that they are cancelling the policy!)0 -
Was there any reason why his girlfriend had such control of his finances? Since they are in his name\personal accounts then he shouldnt have passed over access details for those accounts..
Sounds like he's possibly got out of this lightly as thats a lot to go wrong inside 2 years..0
