And surely I can't change the insurance to the new car, when I don't have it?
    Who would ever know

If the garage don't have the reg details now, they will have soon.

Its not unknown for delivery to be delayed once you have arranged cover.

    I guess that's an option

It's frustrating they won't freeze the 9 month NCD for you, but sadly they make the rules.

Maybe somebody will come along with a clever idea, but as it stands I'd be planning how best to try to sell your car in the 10 day window you'll have that makes it easy, and then if it comes to it pay insurance on the two cars for a little longer if needed. I've not sold a car privately, but I'd have thought that if priced realistically then selling a car in 10 days was achievable. Ebay would be one option as you set a closing date, although if as does happen the deal falls through you then have to try again.

It's a 5 day window apparently, which is the issue. The problem is the new car could well get delayed, and 5 days to time a buyer and getting the new car I think is quite hard.
