Ok, a WOMAN turns up with a MAN's ID and a card with NO NAME on it, to collect a parcel.

As a Post office worker, I certainly wouldn't hand that parcel over!

I don't think the lady wanted to know exactly what was in your parcel...(what would she care? She deals with hundreds everyday) she would just have been looking for a response that fitted with the John Lewis packaging and the feel of the package.... to ascertain that this really was YOUR package.

You'd be quick enough to complain if your parcel had given to a random chancer, just because the post office counter staff couldn't be arsed to ascertain rightful ownership.

Theres a section on those 'you were out' cards which says you can nominate someone to pick the parcel up on your behalf. You have to sign it and provide them with your ID. I've done this many times as I live miles away from the sorting office and my parents live really near to it.

If I were the OP I would have made a note of the name and written a complaint letter. Post office workers are not allowed to ask whats in a parcel. It's none of their business. What if the contents were a bit personal like a pair of incontinence pants or something? It's rather like the doctors receptionists who ask whats wrong with you before they book in an appointment for you.
