Employability Skills Course - Mandatory?

Hello, I am nearing the end of my placement with the work programme and have been told that I must attend a 3 day Employability Skills Course before leaving else I risk losing my benefits.
So, does anyone know of this course? Is it mandatory?
I was told if I don't attend this course my money will be taken off me and will continue to be taken off me until I attend.
I know these agencies like to twist the truth and get people to do things such as this when in reality they aren't mandatory at all and it turns out they make money from you doing it.
I'm not interested in people taking the moral high ground here, so if you plan on preaching about how valuable such courses are... don't.
Many thanks.

I would say if you are asked by them it is mandatory and a condition that you still get your benefit money. You could always ask at the jobcentre when you sign on.0

Everything on the WP is mandatory so yes you have to attendWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I will ask at the next job centre visit, I don't expect a polite response though!
I'm wondering if I am sanctioned, how long that sanction will last and whether I will be sent another appointment.0 -
I'd just play their game !0

The JC have nothing to do with the work programmeI will ask at the next job centre visit, I don't expect a polite response though!

IF you are sanctioned for not turning up you get first 4 weeks taken off you then I think its 13 for the 2nd offence and then 6 mths
Why are you not wanting to do it?We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Hi
Do you mean you are coming to the end of your two years on the work program?
It sounds like an audit, to see if the time on the work program has helped you.
Have a look at this...
http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/wp-pg-chapter-10.pdf
They must produce a report at the end of the program, If I'm right in my thinking, this isn't testing you, it is testing them.
You go in and enjoy it, the next program they send us on will be much worse if my JCP advisor is to be believed.0 -

I do like point 15 on page 3 of 5 there
My list will be MINIMAL as I have done nothing on the WP and would love to see the made up list they are going to submit!
Also point 26 looks like the WP are going to advise the JC of what to do with the person when they get sent back so if you need support and training you may get it via another course or somethingWe’ve had to remove your signature. Also
I have been on a lot of "programs" and the current "Work Program" is a doddle compared to some of them.
Don't think you will be free of these programs, because anyone on benefits (apart from pension credit) will be sent on some sort of program in a continuous cycle until they come off benefit.
There is no end to it!0 -
