I contacted T-Mobile to see if I could get a decent upgrade and new phone. Having had a palaver at every previous renewal I had researched the available packages, picked a phone and was all ready for a stream of useless information, incorrect offers, changed minds and then a ten day wait for my phone.
To my surprise, Diane (the incredibly efficient person taking my call) knew the packages inside out, listened to why I had chosen the package I wanted and suggested a new one that wasn't advertised yet but gave me more of everything for the same price, then gave me a £4 discount on the overall monthly package for being a loyal customer, and promised me the new handset within 3-5 days.
It arrived the next day. Everything was in the package. Nothing missing. I have all the new access codes to the new wifi offerings and I'm saving £14 per month overall with the new contract.
I'm not sure when T-Mobile started hiring efficient, well-informed, helpful and highly pleasant staff, but I'm hugely impressed with the new style customer service. Double-edged compliment, but in a field of terrible service providers, this lot decided to be better and I'm happy to be with them. Wait till it all goes wrong....

It's good to hear there are some people who take the time to listen to what you want. I've had sales people time and again offer phone packages to me that weren't what I was looking, after spending ten minutes explaining what I had previously and what I wanted. Seemed like they just wanted to push the latest model.
I think you might have got lucky with someone who knew exactly what they were doing, rather than everyone at T Mobile not being great. It's not necessarily their fault if they're paid on commission - of course they're going to promote things that will make them more money. So a flaw in the system more than anything else.
Not to say all the salespeople at T mobile aren't good, but in my experience in any sales team there can be a mix of people who are hard-sellers, and those who take a softer approach and are more patient and understanding.0
