Holiday home renting - safety glass issue

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the best forum thread to put this on so apologies if it should go somewhere else.
I am just looking for some advice. I was away with some friends at the weekend and we hired a holiday home in Scotland. Unfortunately, I had an accident whilst there and I tripped on the last step going down the stairs and fell through the glass door at the bottom of the stairs. The door was wood at the bottom and the top half was glass.
There was no safety glass installed so as you can imagine I have two pretty sore injuries to my arms which I put in front of my face to protect myself whilst I fell. I went to A+E and got stitches on both arms.
I've been reading about the Safety regulations for rented properties and my understanding is that there should have been safety glass in it and I was just wondering if anyone has any good understanding of the owners requirements of this in Scotland for renting out holiday homes?
Thanks.

It was one solid piece of glass. The door is pretty huge, it lead out onto a porch.0

I don't think the rules apply retrospectively though. Only if you are replacing glass or fitting new.0
