You are liable. Some councils offer a 50% discount if it is unfurnished, but you will have to check what rules yours has.

You will need to google your local council plus council tax exemptions to see what their policy is.

Ours allow properties that are substantially unfurnished an exemption for one month.

Since council tax reduction (previously council tax benefit) has been handed over to local councils (since April 2013) empty properties has been an area many councils focussed on in order to save money by reducing the exemption period or doing away with it altogether.

Every council has its own rules on this...our particular council stopped all concessions with effect from april 2013...

Ours stopped all discounts unless the house is up for sale.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Ours also have stopped all discounts, you will be liable for all bills during voids and need to factor this into your buisness plan.

You will also be liable for tax on your rent!
