RentACoder.com - get your own small website :)

Options
Hi everyone,

I just thought I would share a site I have found - its called Rent A Coder.com

here is a link to how the site works: (here)

Basically you can place a notice on the board to request people bid for your work, and then they place bids on developing the site (it doesn't have to be a site but thats what I'm using it for) and you can chat to people from all round the world, I have someone who is going to develop a simple site template for me for $100 US (about £50) - I'll let you know how it goes but thought I would share this knowledge in case there is anyone else out there that needs someone to help with some programming! :D

Anyone who is good at coding or designing can also offer their services for jobs as they appear, there is also jobs for copywriting and data input etc that need doing! :)

Or spend a little more and support the UK web design industry.

Either that or don't moan when your new business is going down the pan due to international outsourcing. :)

I had nothing but PROBLEMS with RentACoder.com. I've tried two times bidding for project on RentACoder.com and both times coders failed to deliver me the product and I've finished with arbitration.
Of course, I won arbitration because my projects were well documented. Unfortunatelly my funds were locked with RentACoder because they don't wire back the money.
Moreover RentACoder takes 15% fee from coders' earnings + money transfer fee which is extremely high and attract only beginers which tend to fail on projects.

Even though I provide web design services for what most people generally consider "dirt cheap", I couldn't find a single project on Rent a Coder that I would be happy to take on!

When it comes to small businesses requiring web sites, I tend to find that an informal chat on the phone or a few emails fired back and forth first, is very useful to the client before they actually request a quote. Posting a project description in an uninformed manner and waiting for tenders to roll in, doesn't strike me as a great idea for the average small business owner, without a great deal of web design expertise.

Plus when things go wrong, if you outsource abroad, I would imagine it's harder to track down the designer and hurl abuse at them. :p

Do let us know how you get on, Rachie. :)

    Hi

I have used https://www.scriptlance.com in the past and I have found the experience to be good and all work done to a high standard. It is hit and miss, but if you ensure that you select a developer/web designer/graphical designer carefully (with lots of positive feedback) then you should be ok. I suppose I do know what I am on about and will communicate clearly what I want from the outset and I do tend to know the technical bounds of what I want delivered.

I have used Getafreelancer - it seems bigger and slicker than Rentacoder, to get specialist help with coding mods on my onlne shop.
