Vehicle Testing - What A Scam

I see what your saying Nadnad in getting the car tested and then paying the extra for the re-test but (Unless someone knows otherwise) the exemption certificate only covers you to the date of your first MOT, technically if your car fails, you don't have an MOT so your not insured so technically your driving your car Illegally. OK if you have a secong car at hand to drive while any things area being fixed prior to the retest. I was aware of the certificates, and it's great if you can get a time to suit but that all depends on your working hours.
I feel a real hatred towards car garages here, Estate agents beware, they may soon be knocked of their top post!!Live, Love & Laugh A Lot!0 -
You can make your appointment for a month before your current MOT expires, so if you fail, you have time to fix anything and get a retest while you stil have a valid MOT cert.

AFAICR if your car fails an mot prior to the existing mot expiring then your existing mot is no longer vaild and the car shouldn't be used on the road. In my experience the police aren't really interested in your mot, unless you've been nicked for something else, if the vehicle is roadworthy, taxed and insured. I got pulled over on the motorway on the bike by the traffic branch last year when my mot had expired. they checked my details gave me a bo11ocking about my chain being too loose and sent me on my way without mentioning the mot.0 -
Totally agree, give your custom to local independent garages. Just because Hursts have the financial backing to build snazzy showrooms doesnt mean that they will guarantee customer satisfaction or be any more competent than the smaller garages.
My experience of Hursts is that once you have signed for the car they dont want to know you.
Update on above;
They are worse than incompetent, they are now rogues according to the news today
Hurst Toyota, Boucher Road fined £2000 for charging a customer for work that was never carried out.

My car is registered in NI and is December 2004 meaning that under NI traffic laws it doesn't require it's first MOT untill December 2008 (4 years from firts registration). However I'm moving to England later this year & will be taking the car with me and know that on the mainland a car has to be MOT'd 3 years from first registration thus meaning December this year. Does this apply to cars first registered in NI? And if so, if I move in January 2008 will I have to get the car MOT'd straight away or will it wait untill December 2008??
Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated!0 -
I'm not 100% sure but I'd imagine as your "place of residance" will be England then you'll have to change you're insurance, registration documents & driving licence as required by law (Strickly speaking these should all be under your place of residence) thus I'd imagine to keep your insurance valid, you'll need an MOT certificate as your car will be over the 3 year old mark.. only my take on things though!!Live, Love & Laugh A Lot!0

Mind you I wouldn't believe 'computer mistake' from government .. they definitely have worn that one a bit thin .. in their case it is always down to incompetence
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
