You can buy a VHS c adapter, you'd,,all need a player of course. Then all you need is a DVD recorder, and a suitable cable.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

We have a DVD player not recorder, so we will have to buy a recorder. What cable would we need?
Our max budget would be about 50.00 but hopefully less if we could buy the cable on amazon. Dvd recorders are expensive so we will try to borrow one but most people we know record on sky +

Are there any local transfer services you could use?

If there is a significant expenditure involved in doing it DIY, that might be a better option.

I wouldn't just buy a recorder just to record some tapes, unless you plan on using it after. Try asking on freecycle for the loan of one, or friends, or if it's getting too costly, look at a company who will do them all for one fee.

You can get dvd recorders very cheap second hand now as a lot have analogue tuners which are no good for recording tv, but are fine for copying camcorder tapes. I paid £2 for a Sony one off ebay.

Drawback being the lack of editing capability, unless OP gets two.

HDD recorder or a Panasonic with DVD-RAM capability are the two editing machine options
