    It sounds a great idea in principle, but whether that translates to actual help, only time will tell.

    I see the bit where local authorities will have to show why applications have been rejected. Who decides if that reason is acceptable or not?

    What a joke - they are not getting financial rights, they are getting the right to request financial (and other) support. I can't see how that will change the current system - apart from spending £150 million to find reasons to reject/ limit claims. Money needs to be allocated to helping people get the care they need, not for more bureaucracy.

    What annoys me is the way they are moving the goalposts for people who have, for decades, planned their retirement based on the current situation.

    For example, (from the Daily Telegraph today) :-
    everyone who reaches state pension age after the single-tier pension comes in will get a pension based solely on their own contributions. They will no longer be entitled to a state pension by virtue of their spouse's NI record[/I

    It's far worse than that.
    Carers are getting the right to pick up the tab for the care they so thoughtfully request for a friend, neighbour or relative.
