Or just rename the C:\Program Files\Messenger to C:\Program Files\Messengerpoop
Be careful if you install the version 6 or beta7 of messenger cas it will create another folder....if it does just rename it to
C:\Program Files\Messengerold
It will warn you that doing so will kill your p.c and create thunder! Still do it!0 -
I'd got so used to it not appearing I'd forgotten how annoying it was.
Another option - if you have AdAware, press the Add-ons button, right-click in the box, and Check for new Add-ons - you want OE-W Messenger
or do this link
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/addons/oewmessengerctrl.shtmlIf you have disabled Windows Messenger's auto-start function, and you'd like it to remain closed while using Outlook Express, we have created an add-on which will allow you to prevent Windows Messenger from starting when Outlook Express launches. The add-on allows you to switch between disabling and enabling Windows Messenger's auto-launch status when opening Outlook Express. When Windows Messenger is disabled, you may also notice faster load times when opening Outlook Express.0 -
MSN is a PITA!!!!
I rarely use IE these days (and probably won't at all now Iceland online shopping has ended, as that's about the only site I have to switch for) but every time I open it the homepage defaults back to MSN even though I always set it to blank
When I reboot the PC the messenger icon always comes up in my task bar too but at least I can now just delete that. Previously it refused saying it was being used in another application but I think I changed something in the registry so I could delete it. If I could remember my log-in details I could probably set it not to load on start-up too but it's that long since I used it I've forgotten them"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

It is that what you do, good or bad,
will come back to you three times as strong!

you can also click start then run and paste this command in
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
this will completely remove the included version of messenger 4.70 -
I just want to get rid of the pop up about a newer version being available everytime the computer is idle! My daughter uses Windows Messenger when she's at home so don't want to get rid of the programme. Have looked in options but there's nothing about not displaying the message. Any ideas please?0
