Daughters homework help

My daughter needs to make some fraction snap cards for school and is wanting to do it on the computer rather than by hand.

So far she's used word to create a table and write the fractions both in word form and number form.

However we're both struggling to create the visual representation cards. She needs to show fractions between 0 and 1 using a square.
Is there any easy way to create them?

TIA

So you want to draw a number of squares, and then colour in, say half, a quarter etc on each one to represent the fractions?

You probably can do it on Word but it isn't really set up to do that. What version of Word do you have? Do you have any other programmes available, like Paint or Publisher?

Powerpoint would be the best thing to use if you have it.

I would say that Word would be best and insert a table that is say 10x10 cells (or 3x3 for the 1/3 fractions etc) - will need a bit of faffing to get it square.

Then she can just set the background colour for the relevant proportion.

That's exactly who she needs to do. halves, quarters, fifths and sixths.

Word is 2007 version. Also have publisher, paint and power point

Halves and quarters of a square should be easy - but fifths and sixths? Are you sure that you wouldn't rather base it on a circle?

5x5 & 6x6 would do it - lot easier than trying to get the right angles for a circle.

That would be much easier but it has to be done with a square, not a circle. Not sure why it makes a difference to be honest....a fraction is a fraction!

So for one fifth you would set up a grid with 5 rows and 5 columns and then colour in 5 of those cells? Yes, that's probably the most straightforward way, although colouring in an odd number of cells would offend my eye!

.... edited to say, oh, I was thinking about colouring in a square of four plus one, but of course you could have a row of five which would be neater. Stupid me!
