That's what I thought – worth asking, though. Thanks for your reply. :)

I like apple on the whole their service is good. Although all it takes is....ahem one bad apple.

You do get the odd advisor or genius who will point blank refuse to believe apple products can go wrong and make you feel like the guilty party. They are however in the minority. Having had an iPad instantly replaced and a mini due to faults.

Ohhh and they replaced my husbands iPhone for free when I washed it, as he was in uniform,

Sometimes they do drop the ball, this reminds me of the nano incident. Where somewhere else forced them into admitting liability and replacing the old nanos. As they were a fire risk, it soon spread to elsewhere once they'd admitted liability in whatever country it was, as they faced court action over that.

I've got a nice nano to show for it now :D this does sound rather similar, so I think you're getting a rough time op.

    This should be sufficient evidence:

Apple seem to be turning a blind eye to this everywhere except USA where they have been forced to accept liability and damages.

That happened to my first charger, and my sons, AND my daughters. The kids ones I wasn't overly surprised as their MacBooks went everywhere with them so leads were always being unplugged and thrown into bags. Mine surprised me, it rarely moved off the desk.

I replaced the chargers with the newer style ones and a little over 12 months later mine is now being held together with tape because its split completely. I'd love to know how a machine that never moves can get through 2 chargers. They are crap and at £50 a pop expensive crap at that. Partly why when mine dies its death it wont be replaced by another MBP.

I would take it in to your local dealer, ours is an an independent but will still sort out something like this quickly.
Whatever you do don't buy a cheap replacement as it will almost certainly be a dangerous fake.
