Hi All,

Got letter that someone else owns money but at my address and there looking for HIM to pay it.
I don't know him, I live on my own for past 5 years (at this address) and don't every have a credit card.
Now a 2nd letter asking the same thing.

I returned 1st letter as return to sender but then 2nd came in 2 weeks later.

Any idea what should do. This person I don't know and I live on my own.

Thanks for any advise..!

  • What company is it that's sending the letter? Is there any indication of how long ago the money was owed? If it is more than five years ago then perhaps it was a previous resident. If it is more recent the perhaps someone has used your address to apply for something. If this is the case, don't worry, it wont cause any damage to your own credit record.

Return the second letter to sender and write "Not Known at This Address" on the front of the envelope.

Do the same. Write "Return to sender. Addressee unknown". Drop to any postbox. Forget about it.

    It's 'advice' ;)

Of course a bad guy can also return letters.

And if they've got legal notices to send, they'll have to send them to the guy's supposed last known address, or they won't have sent them.

Yes, but given the 7 other errors in the post I think the OP is a non-native speaker of English, so we should cut them some slack.

PS To the OP: I agree with the others, just return the letters.

I get RBS chasing somebody I've never heard of. I originally rang them and told them as much, but three years later and the letters keep coming. I just bin them now.

So am I. However, I am yet to meet a non-native speaker that writes "there looking for HIM". Oddly, it's far more typical for native speakers - like most examples from my signature.

Given the standard of English taught in schools these days, I wouldn't bank on it.
  • It is not very nice when this happens and can really worry some people. I would send back the post with a letter explaining the situation and ask them to mark their records accordingly.

    True.
What made me think 'non-native' was "I live on my own for past 5 years", which would be correct in some other languages.

    Sorry for wandering off topic...
