Taxi from Palma Airport to Calas de Mallorca

Hi All,

My parents and I have booked a holiday to Calas de Mallorca, and we'd like a taxi transfer from Palma Airport to the hotel and back. The big shuttle companies in the UK want to charge anywhere between £150 - £180 for this, but having looked at the tariff on the airport website I think it should be cheaper to use a local taxi and pay the meter rate. I wondered if someone who has recent experience of using taxis in Mallorca could check my workings and answer a few questions?

First, the prices. Google Maps puts the distance at about 62km. The outbound journey would be at around 18:00 on a Friday, so should incur the weekday rate of 0.80 Euros/km. The return journey will be on a Sunday morning, so will be at the higher rate of 1.02 Euros/km. We'll have two suitcases, which will be 1.20 Euros per journey extra, and both journeys will incur the airport surcharge of 2.70 Euros. I'm also factoring in a tip of 10 Euros per journey. So...

Outbound journey = (62 * 0.80) + 1.20 + 2.70 + 10 = 63.50 Euros
Return journey = (62 * 1.02) + 1.20 + 2.70 + 10 = 77.14 Euros
Total = 140.64 Euros, or approximately £120

Does this look right so far, or have I missed something out?

Assuming that the total above is accurate, will all taxis that stop at the taxi rank in the airport offer the same rates or do I need to look for specific companies? Is there anything to be gained by booking in advance?

On the way back, is it OK to let the hotel reception book whichever taxi company they normally use, or should I be asking for a specific company or booking myself?

Is there anything else that would be useful to know?

    Try Suntransfers - they seem to be offering a similar rate to the one you describe, but this way you can book in advance.

    I used them in Barcelona with no problems.

    Thanks for this suggestion. I've done some reading around about them and found mainly good reviews. I would feel a lot more comfortable booking in advance from the UK, and they only want £15 more than I expected to pay for a taxi on the meter, so I'll almost certainly end up using them.

    Have you ever booked through this site? The price seems OK, but the site itself makes me feel a bit uncomfortable (although I can't put my finger on exactly why) and I can't find any reviews for them.

    No, I haven't myself. there's a few websites around offering the same sort of price though. https://www.balearictransfer.com is a far better designed website I've just found, offering €64 each way.

    We've used a2b transfers in Majorca in 2012 and 2011 and they were good- took a bit of finding of their desk in Palma airport but apart from that excellent

    MSE tip - Always book yourself, or ask the reception for a business card of a taxi firm.

    Quite often the hotel takes a cut/commission from the taxi firm,when they find them fares, and sometime the cost can be passed onto you.
