You have no idea actually how many people come on here and say they didn't receive their reminder letters. They cant all have been lost in the post.

And it's inconceivable of course that mine would not actually have been sent in the first place (or have been lost in the post)? Having worked for an an insurance company I wouldn't regard this as particularly unlikely.

and that was a new business quote so renewal was likely twice that

Exactly - which is why I regard auto-renewal as sharp practice when the customer has not acknowledged the renewal premium.

Surely you would have known that a renewal notice was missing?

It probably occurred to me that I hadn't heard from Elephant, but I didn't consider for a moment that they would have authorisation to auto-renew without my consent.

It seems that I'm alone here in regarding automatic renewal as a cynical way of hiking renewal premiums for unsuspecting punters.

I've had an admiral multicar policy for years, and never not had a renewal notice.

I don't think you are alone but it works very well for people who forget their renewal - they avoid a fine and 6 points on their licence.

It also works well for people on long holidays around renewal time or others who forget to tell insurers of their new address.

If you had received the renewal notice, it is easy instructions to stop it auto renewing.

On balance, I can live with it.

But you did give your consent, when you took the first policy out with them. You obviously didn't read it properly.

Did you say you worked in Insurance..............

Elephant DO advise they auto-renew (for patronising and unbelievable reasons). You need to opt out by advising them, as explained in the policy document.

I have used Elephant insurance in the past and it was very very clear they worked on an auto renew scheme, as do a lot of insurance companies these days, would have thought you would know this if you work in the industry.

Personally although I would never renew without looking round glad it works this way to be totally honest simply for the fact if life is busy and I forget about renewal at least I am not left driving round without insurance, would just mean I had to pay more that year because I did not have the time to look around.

I was with bell and admiral and both do state auto renew, and op how how you provided proof of no claims?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
