i use my memory stick on my work laptop to update an excel file for monthly information (excel version 2010).
each month i create a new file for that month - a copy of previous file.
for some reason each time i copy my file April.xls and rename for May it goes corrupted. I tried this twice and for some reason the original April file has gone corrupted. (luckily i had a backup and the data input only took a few mins)
but for some reason i cant delete the corrupted april file - any help on this?
-when i try to save the folder with new files to C:\ drive temp backup it says it cannot do this due to the corrupted file.
welcome any advice on how to delete the corrupted file.
Does the stcik need a reformat?
(i have virus scanned stick and it was OK)
Thank You

I wonder if renaming the corrupted file from .xls to .txt might allow you to delete it?... DaveHappily retired and enjoying my 14th year of leisureI am cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.Bring me sunshine in your smile0

Have you tried switching the computer off and on again?

(It might be that the file is being held open by some application which won't let you access it. I've occasionally had problems with anti-virus software locking a file in this way, and switching off and on is the way I've managed to clear it. It may be worth a look seeing if the file is still corrupted too.)0 -

i had this problem a few times with excel. decided to copy what I need on stick and reformat it. Then copy backup files to stick.
will and rename it if it happens again.

Probably caused by stick being pulled out before the last write was finished. I take it you use "safely remove" ?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy
