Lloyds Vantage Gold Upgrade - Where do I stand?

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on an unusual situation. I have a joint Vantage account with my wife and I have been looking at upgrading it to the Gold level which includes EU & Worldwide travel insurance as one of the benefits. I have just purchased travel insurance for an upcoming trip, but hoped to be able to cancel that and take advantage of the cover included with the Gold Account.
I am a diabetic, with some quite major complications but my wife is in good health. I have called the pre account screening department because, although the travel insurance states that diabetes IS covered without the need for screening, I have had an amputation which needs declaring and screening.
Lloyds have refused to insure me for Worldwide travel, stating that the underwriters (AXA) won't cover me, but will cover me for European travel. The thing is, I have just taken out insurance for worldwide travel through the very same underwriter - AXA.
So where do I stand here? I would clearly benefit from the paid account due to the European insurance, the car rescue and mobile phone cover but Lloyds are refusing to allow me the full use of the benefits.
Is it possible that, since AXA have issued me a Worldwide insurance policy (although it did cost a fortune), Lloyds are likely to be trying to blame AXA when it is simply Lloyds who don't want to cover me? Or is it likely that AXA would issue a policy on one occasion, yet refuse cover a week or two later?
I feel a little aggrieved at the situation. Are Lloyds known for discriminating? That's how it seems to be.

Lloyds are likely to have their own arrangement with AXA, and this doesn't need to be the same as AXA are offering themselves. Nothing to do with discrimination.0

You've pretty much answered the question yourself, you can get cover but it costs you a fortune. Lloyds cover is for what they class as a "typical adult", and they don't want the extra administration and costs of insuring you as an individual. They are probably getting it at a heavily discounted rate for the number of applications they are putting through.
All you can do is consider that the cover provided by Lloyds is therefore useless for you and see if the rest of the package suits your needs.0 -
One thing to add to this discussion. I have Lloyds travel cover as part of my bank account and have been using it for over 4 years. I had to make a claim on my Lloyds insurance and was very disappointed with the outcome (essentially the claims process was long and I was left out of pocket vy a number of ways in which the bank interpreted various parts of the policy to minimise it's pay out on the theft of a handbag and purse - if you want to read a full description, I've written a review of my experiences on http://insurancecompanyreview.co.uk/insurancereviews/lloyds/ ). Given this, I would be worried about using them for a more substantial claim on travel insurance such as one involving a health issue so you should look at the more expensive cover and also think of the peace of mind that it might bring.0
