help with internet on my mobile please

I have just changed my phone for a Sony xperia neo v.It is a great phone but today whilst outside I tried to use the internet for the 1st time.I tried everything i could think of but couldn`t get connected.I have had no problem whilst indoors through my virgin router.I know it is going to be something simple but I can`t for the life of me do it .Can someone help me please ?

I take it you mean using wifi ?

Ah well I believe its Android, correct ?

If so drag the top of the screen down and tap what looks like a series of lines on top of each other, the words wifi might be underneath it.

Could also be incorrect APN settings if it is a new phone and you are not trying to use wifi. The following may be of help:

Not WiFi then you may have Mobile Data turned OFF.
