Vri insurance (GAP)

Hi folks I have just bought a new car on a pcp plan over 3 years - it is a used car through arnold Clark.
The purchase price just under 12k but they have been talking about their vri insurance which I understand is akin to gap insurance. My question would be is it worth getting this product at £199 or shopping around the market?
Or the last option.....is it worth it at all?

You are a star....I notice they have 2 levels of cover one seems to be just gap and the other is vehicle + so I'm guessing that is the one to go for
Thanks again!Mortgage when started October 2011 : £94,134

Your normal car insurance may provide for a replacement car if yours is written off or stolen within the first 12 months. Check your policy.0

You can get a VRI Gap policy and defer the date it starts if you have replacement cover on your motor insurance. This means you can avoid paying twice for the same cover in the first year, but you can then protect yourself for a number of years after.
In terms of where to buy Vri then take a look at defaqto, they have star ratings for gap insurance now, and have rated ninety odd products. The company mentioned above only got a 2 star rating, plenty of other got 5 stars for this type of product.0 -

The OP says it is a used car they've gotten. Own insurance replacement is normally only on brand new cars where you are the first registered owner.0 -
Before you buy from anywhere I would have a look at the Defaqto Star Ratings.
Seems that the provider that you are so quick to recommend is rated as two and three star.
The ratings are based not on the marketing or the pictures or the so called associations but what the policies really do, when you make a claim and the terms and conditions.
P.s the Uk based issue is a complete red herring.
As long as the company that you are buying from is regulated and the policies backed by the FSC then it would be the same compensation scheme that would after you.
Let me know how you get, good luck?Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
