Neighbours large trees

Hi -
I have a tiny garden and the neighbours one over have got some rather large evergreens in their also very small garden. Come 3.30pm, even in the summer, the sun is blocked from both my and my immediate neighbours gardens.
I think that they rent the property if that makes a difference.
I was hoping for some guidence on how to word a letter to the tenants to ask whether they or their landlord (if they are indeed renting) would consider cutting the trees down.
Thanks

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.

Politely - you generally have no right to light in this case.
How about you start by talking to your neighbours to find out if they rent or not and if they do whether they would like the trees cut down? If they do then the landlord is far more likely to listen to their concerns than yours.
If they don't then I'd offer full or part payment of the costs to remove them - the LL might want them removed too if that would improve the garden but might not want to do it because of the cost.0 -
I agree entirely with Jayne, have a friendly word instead of going down the formal route.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Some councils now have rules on conifers hedges and height. Check out if they have a policy online0

Well, the neighbours claim they don't speak English... Despite evidence to the contrary!! But what they did do was give me the number of the landlord. I texted him and he's come back saying that he will meet me this weekend. So far so good!!!!
The other neighbour (between me and the offending house) have contacted the council in the mean time. The husband is willing to meet the landlord with me on Saturday.
I hope that the landlord is as reasonable as he seems so far.
Thanks for the advice so farMan plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
I'm sure the LL will be reasonable as long as you pay for everything.. That's my experience
Best of British with this - keep us posted

Worth it though, split between neighbour. The value of your house should increase without the trees.0 -

Oh I think these conifers are at least 10m high!!
I am going to try not pay for it, if I can help it!! But as you say, what's £100 when it means my garden gets sunlight after 3.30pm in the middle of summer!!!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. £100 I'm afraid it won't be, more like £200 to £250 each, and given such a small garden you speak of they can't be felled, simply scaled and sawn bit by bit.
If they can't get the shredder in that may make more expence:(:(
sorry.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
I was thinking more like the LL will pay half and me and the other neighbour pay a quarter each...
Any you're quite right, they can't be felled... they'd probably take out 3 or 4 houses if they did that! And we're not even in a terrace!!Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry.
