New tenancy credit/reference checks

I'm trying to start a new tenancy at a new property, i've been living at my current property for three years.

New EA have sent an application form which includes last two jobs, salary/income, last three years of addresses, bank details and current estate agent details.

First Question: I haven't given notice on my current tenancy as I need to have some where to move to. Will these checks involve contacting my current estate agent as I don't want them to know I'm leaving yet.

Second Question: My job history has been a bit chequered in the last few years. Will this affect my ability to get the property/pass the application? (My credit history is fantastic and have never been in debt.)

    They can't see much of your credit history anyway (just publicly available information). They will probably want to contact the LA (or LL) and your current employer for references (although in my situation they didn't contact the LL as they were a Housing Association, so unless you're also a social tenant they will probably contact the LA).

    I guess what's important is your current employment - if it's permanent. It has been difficult economic times the past few years, lots of people losing/changing jobs, so if that was counted against them then I imagine it would be difficult for a lot of people to rent.
