The last time I was bothered about insurance groups it was about turbo calibras and cosworths.

Stuff has changed and I presume ins groups no longer go from 1 to 20?

A tubo cav/cal was group 20 back in the day

So, how do ins groupings work today? old 1.5 diesel was group 10, new 1.5 with 4 more bhp is group 18 ,,,,, !!!!!!???:eek::eek::eek::eek:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

The problem with the group system is it means little for insurance premiums.

Why was it cheaper to insure a group 16 car over a group 13 car?

    yep, I've got an Audi S4 (5s 0-60 & 155mph) that is £40 cheaper to insure than a 1.9 diesel A4 of the same age (12s 0-60 & 115mph).

Same company, same driver, same details, just change the car and the quote goes up by £40

A porsche or similar was group 20 back in the 80's, calibra turbo or similar was group 15, that's how it used to be back in the day.

Being a bit more affluent today than back then I've never bothered until Atrix on here warned me of the difference.

It was the fact that a Renault megane diesel with 105bhp is group 10 and the same engine with 4 more bhp, 110 is group 18:eek::eek::eek:

and that's by today's groupings straight of Parkers.

Previous poster was right, they must make it up as they go along.

I will check out the thatcham link, cheers, it was just out of interest really though, I do understand that the only way to get any viable figure is to get a quote:T:T

Yes having read that it has gone from 20 to 50, with 6 permutations of each group :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
