Disputing blame in an accident claim?

Hi Folks,
my girlfriend was involved in a car accident while I was a passenger. It seemed straightforward enough, road was bending, car coming the other way too fast and too wide, clipped the side of her car. Insurance companies are now ruling it a 50/50 blame accident which it definitely was not.
Other driver admitted blame, we have photos of our car clearly on our side of the road, I haven't been asked for a witness statement (though the ambulance chasers started pestering me straight away). Is there any appeal/dispute process? Insurance company said if she wanted to dispute it then she had to get a solicitor to do it. Obviously that's probably more hassle than it's worth, which I imagine is why they have suggested it.
Any ideas on routes to take with the dispute?
Regards,
Stuart

Does your girlfriend have 'legal protection' with her insurance?...if so that may be an avenue to explore with regards to a solicitor.0
