Santander....improving?

Options
Been with them since A&L days and do everything online with no serious problems, so despite them propping up satisfaction surveys I see no reason to leave.

Just came off the phone to them - amazed that it was a UK call centre, the chap was lucid, polite and good natured, and despite the "you have to listen to this 70 second recorded message now" nonsense, I was very impressed with them.....

I've been with Santander for over 10 years and experienced nothing but excellent customer service.

This is mainly based on branch visits, so got to know the staff very well and they always went the extra mile to help, although have also used an online account for the last few years and again never had any problems.

Had a recent very stressful occasion when wallet got stolen containing all my bank and credit cards etc. and they couldn't have been more helpful.

There is a lot of negativity regarding banks (and rightly so!) but from my personal experience I can't fault them.

I'm with Santander and haven't had any problems.

However, I gather issues have surrounded how they do or don't deal with problems and complaints.

This isn't unique to Santander. Many companies are fine until there's a problem.

On the flip side of the coin, I think there's a lot of Santander banishing because of its reputation. And, whenever I tell anyone I bank with Santander, I get the usual clueless speech about how I'm going to lose all my money because they're a Spanish Bank.

A friend, who banks with Natwest and Halifax is particularly forceful about this. Oh, the irony!

I find their call centre staff pretty useless. On several occasions they have proactively offered me money to 'resolve' complaints (looks good on their stats), but not actually done anything to resolve them. I had a current account with them for three weeks and in that time they gave me £85, but as they still had not made any effort to sort out my direct debit transfers I took the money and left!
